filthyjanuary: Hello c: Uh I'm moving to a whole new country in a week or so and I want to start figure skating. I'm 17 and thus far in my life I haven't really exercised all that much and have zero flexibility anywhere, so I was wondering if you could tell me how to start increasing my overall flexibility, in all parts of my body? Thanks c:

Hello! That’s so awesome that you’re taking up skating, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.

As I always recommend, I suggest you write up a list or program of stretches that you do regularly (between 4 and 7 days per week).

You can check out some of the pages on my blog to find stretches, but these will help start you off:

Back:

cobra -

bridge (straight & bent legs) -

Yoga ‘cats’ -

Hamstrings:

General legs:

straddle -

Hips:

I also suggest you start practicing your spirals by lifting and holding your leg. You can also try doing some squats, lunges and ab work to help your strength.

I hope this helps you and best of luck with starting skating!
